Administrative history

The Rotary Club of Edmonton Northeast, like all Rotary Clubs, is a service club dedicated to performing charitable works. The initiative for the club came from the Rotary Club of Edmonton which was looking for projects to commemorate its fiftieth anniversary and it was felt that the northeast portion of the city had enough interest to support a full club. The club was founded in 1965 and chartered by Rotary International in 1966 with Alexander Latta Sr. as the club’s first president and founding member.
Since its founding, the Rotary Club of Edmonton Northeast has been involved in a number of charitable activities both locally and abroad. The club was involved with fundraising for the palisades and bastions at Fort Edmonton Park. Later, in 1975, the club constructed the Londonderry Pool. The club has also undertaken charitable works abroad including the construction of latrines in Zaruma, Ecuador.
The club belongs to District 5370 of Rotary International and has been active at both the district and international levels. Several of its members have become district presidents over the years and the club has contributed significantly to Rotary International’s Polio Plus program.
