Biografie
Phillip James Cox was born in South Africa in 1923 and came to Alberta in 1925. He was raised in Lloydminster and moved to Edmonton to take teacher training at Normal School.
After serving in World War II, Phil returned to university and received a B. Ed. from the University of Alberta in 1948. He taught at several schools in Edmonton before joining the Alberta Teachers' Association. He retired from the ATA in 1985 after serving as its executive director for 27 years. Phil Cox took a passionate interest in photography and recording Edmonton’s history.
Phil Cox married Mae Empey in 1952 and they had six children: Helen, Tom, Jim, Gordon, Charles and Edward.
Phil Cox died December 2004 in Edmonton.

This fonds consists of a history of the Alban, Treals, Cartmell and Fry families, transit maps, an Alberta Railway timetable, a price list for Hazletts' store, and materials on the Edmonton Bird Club.
The photographs include Edmonton buildings, street scenes, events and people.

This fonds was donated to the City of Edmonton Archives by Phil Cox in thirteen donations made between 1974 and 1999.
Ordening
The textual material was arranged according to the filing system of the creator.
The photographs were arrange in chronological order and assigned item numbers with the prefix EA-207.
