Known as OMEP from the initials of the French name, Organisation Mondiale pour l'Education Prescholaire, this international group was created in 1948 to assemble people who are connected by their work with or interest in children up to eight or nine years of age. It works for the promotion of research about young children, the dissemination of knowledge about them and the amelioration of any unsatisfactory or harmful condition affecting them. The Edmonton branch of OMEP, affiliated through the Canadian Committee on Early Childhood, Inc. (OMEP Canada), was organized in 1969. The branch was disbanded in 1994, then revived in 2002. It current status is uncertain.
Custodial history
Sheila Campbell was a founding member and chair of OMEP Edmonton and deposited the fonds on behalf of the organization.
Scope and content
This fonds consists of minutes of board and general meetings; membership lists; correspondence; reports, studies and briefs on families, childcare, preschoolers with parents in prison; and promotional and campaign material.
