Name of creator
Merrill E. Wolfe was born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan in 1919 and moved to Edmonton at an early age. After graduating from the University of Alberta he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot during the Second World War.
After the war he joined Edmonton Motors, the firm his father had started in 1925, and later he assumed the presidency. Mr. Wolfe was president of the Rotary Club, and Chairman of the Fort Edmonton Foundation for six years. He also served as Chairman of the Historical Advisory Board and as Honorary Chief Factor of Fort Edmonton. He served on the Steering Committee, Foundation for Cultural Heritage, which ultimately influenced the establishment of the Edmonton Community Foundation.
Merrill E. Wolfe died in 1975.
Robert Wolfe is the son of Merrill E. Wolfe.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of correspondence, meeting minutes and supporting documents, reports and legislation relating to the Steering Committee, Foundation of Cultural Heritage and the Edmonton Community Foundation, 1970-1971. The fonds also includes a portrait photograph of Merrill Wolfe, 1975, that was used for an Edmonton Historical Board award.
Immediate source of acquisition
This fonds was donated to the City of Edmonton Archives by Merrill Wolf and Robert Wolfe in 1975.
The material was arranged according to the filing system of the creator.
The photograph was assigned item number with the prefix EA-233.
