Alexander McCauley and Eleanor Latimer, lived near Owen Sound, Ontario and had ten children between 1847 and 1864 – Mary Ann (1847-1884), John S. (1848-1935), Matthew (1850-1930), Martha (1851-1920), Eliza (1853-1927), Samuel (1855-1903), Eleanor (1857-1893), Alexander (1860-1908), Margaret Jane (1862-1933), and William Francis (1863-?). While some members stayed in Ontario, a few moved to western Canada, namely Matthew, Alexander and Samuel.

Matthew, Alexander, and Samuel were prominent citizens in early Edmonton.

Geschiedenis beheer

Margaret Wood is the daughter of Alexander J.H. McCauley, sister to William A. McCauley, and granddaughter to Matthew McCauley.

Elizabeth Aylen, is the daughter of Julia Alberta McCauley Norquay and the granddaughter of Matthew McCauley.

Marjorie van de Sande is the daughter of Elizabeth Aylen, granddaughter of Julia Alberta McCauley Norquay, and the great granddaughter of Matthew McCauley.

Jean McLean Saville is the daughter of Catherine A. McCauley and granddaughter of Samuel McCauley.

It is not known how Tony Cashman or Lorne Kozak acquired the records.

Bereik en inhoud

The fonds consists of personal papers and business records of some members of the McCauley family, including Matthew McCauley, his children Alexander James Henry McCauley and Julia Alberta McCauley Norquay, and his grandson William Alexander McCauley. There are also records of Matthew’s brothers Samuel and Alexander.

The records include family trees and a family history narrative of the McCauley family 1824 to 1965. There are also records from the businesses run by Matthew, Samuel and Alexander.

The photographs include the children of Matthew and Matilda McCauley, as well as photographs showing some of the construction and hauling work done by Samuel McCauley and his crew.

The photographs were assigned item numbers with the prefix EA-430.
