History
Lillian Della Armstrong was born in Columbia House in Edmonton in 1899, the daughter of Edgar W. Armstrong. Educated in Edmonton, she became a teacher in and out of the city. For twenty years she wrote the Third Column of the Edmonton Journal under the name of Lillian Armstrong Maze, telling stories of many of the old timers and of early events. She was made an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Author's Association as a contributor to the Edmonton Branch. Some of her articles have appeared in the Alberta Historical Review and in the Alberta Golden Jubilee Anthology. With her father she joined the Northern Alberta Pioneer's and Old Timers' Association and was made a Life Member. She received and Edmonton Historical Board Recognition Award in 1983 for her contribution to preserving Edmonton's past (see RG-21 series 2.4 file 242). She died in 1993 and was buried in Edmonton Municipal Cemetery alongside her husband, Robert Maze (1897-1959).
