Biografie
Margaret McFarlane was born in 1863 to Janet McEwen and Neil McFarlane in Ontario. By 1890, she was a day school and Sunday school teacher in Bruce county, Ontario. She married George S. Armstrong in Greenock, Bruce County, Ontario, on October 4th, 1893. George was a druggist in Lion’s Head, Ontario. They had one daughter, Helen Laverne Armstrong, born September 28, 1894.
Margaret McFarlane Armstrong died in 1897 at the age of 33.
George Armstrong married Jessie Mathieson 8 Sep 1887 in Elora, Ontario. They had two children, William Seale Armstrong, born 1899 and Jessie Eileen Armstrong, born 1904.
In 1906 the family headed west to Edmonton. George opened the Armstrong Drug Store. He soon entered civic politics eventually serving as Mayor of Edmonton 1910-1912.

The fonds consists of Margaret McFarlane’s red leather cover autograph album 1890-1892, inscribed “Miss Margeurite McFarlane”, and includes various quotes, sayings and signatures by Margaret’s family, friends and acquaintances. The album shows a variety of styles of handwriting and calligraphy, as well as Margaret’s travels throughout northern and central Ontario, including Lion’s Head, Singhampton, Pinkerton, Walkerton, Blyth, Clinton and Fairview.
The back cover of the album is annotated ‘Jessie Armstrong 10 years, 1916’. So it is possible Jessie Armstrong also used the album.
