Biographical history
William Aberhart believed in state oversight of credit and eventually formed the Alberta Social Credit League. The party won a huge majority in the September 1935 election. Upon election the Social Credit League began printing their own form of currency called Prosperity Certificates. A large portion of the Alberta population refused to use the certificates and they were discontinued.
