Name of creator
Les Kozma was born in 1953 in Budapest, Hungary. Les’ father relocated the family to Edmonton in 1956 due to the Hungarian Revolution. The family lived in the Calder / Lauderdale area of Edmonton which influenced Les due to the house’s proximity to the rail yards.
After graduating high-school, Les attended the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s (NAIT) architecture program and worked as an independent construction project director until he was hired by Ledcor in 2000.
After reviewing a book written by railway historian Charles Bohi, the two became close friends and collaborated on books together.
Les Kozma is a member of the Canadian Railway Hall of Fame and served a term as director there.
Scope and content
This fonds consists of the December 1983 issue of "The Marker", a newsletter published by the Alberta Pioneer Railway Association. The newsletter includes an article on the consolidation of the Canadian Northern Railway and the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway at Edmonton written by Les Kozma. The records also include sets of blueprints for the Canadian Northern Railway Station in Edmonton (4 sections, 1/8"=1' scale) and the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Station in Strathcona (3 sections, 1/8"=1' scale), which are reproduced in the article. Finally, there is also a book, 'Canadian Pacific's Western Depots: the Country Stations in Western Canada', written by Les Kozma and Charles Bohi (385 BOH).
Immediate source of acquisition
This fonds was donated to the City of Edmonton Archives by Les Kozma in 1984, 1993, and 1995.
