Edmonton Remembers VE Day
CA EDM MS-1263 · Collection · 2012 - 2014

This collection consists of records relating to the grieving process of Michelle Shegelski’s family in the aftermath of her passing. The records illuminate the challenges of losing a family member to homicide, as well as the challenges of grieving in the public eye given the highly publicized nature of Michelle’s passing. Records include news clippings about Michelle Shegelski, sympathy cards sent to the family, and materials about Michelle’s funeral and the memorial held for all three lost G4S guards. Also included in this collection is a series of records relating to victim and grief support for the family, largely from the Edmonton Police Service’s victim services unit. These documents include media training, preparation for entering the trial and court, victim impact statement information, and support groups for victims of homicide. This collection also includes one box of newspapers collected by the family related to the shootings, arrest and trial, and memorials following the incident.
