This series contains the tax collector's and assessment rolls from the Village of North Edmonton, as well as the assessment rolls for the North Edmonton School District No. 2305.

Financial Records

This series includes records related to the financial responsibilities of the Town of Strathcona and City of Strathcona. It includes tax assessment rolls, tax sale ledgers, ledgers of receipts and expenditures, information about utilities, and a general financial ledger.

Correspondence, Office of the Secretary-Treasurer

The office of Secretary-Treasurer was first held by George F. Downes (1899-1906), then H. G. Clarke (1906-1909), and finally C. E. K. Cox (1910-1912).

This series includes correspondence from the office of the Secretary-Treasurer.

The series is divided into four subseries:

  • Subseries 5.1: Letterbook of Outgoing Correspondence (November 1, 1899 -October 6, 1906)
  • Subseries 5.2: Letterbook of Outgoing Correspondence (October 8, 1906 -July 17, 1907)
  • Subseries 5.3: Correspondence (May 1901 -March 15, 1907)
  • Subseries 5.4: Correspondence (March 15, 1907 -March 1912)

Subseries 5.4 also includes two photographs of Sollitt House and Yard: EA-10-2739 and EA-10-2740.

The Papers of the Edmonton Town/City Secretary (1892-1912)

This series includes all incoming and outgoing correspondence and several administrative registers. The correspondence deals with all matters involving the Town, in particular municipal elections, water and sewer extensions, electric lighting, the street railway system, immigration, the sale of Town debentures, taxation, property alterations, and numerous petitions for extended services. The records have been classified according to subject and provided with an index.

This series contains the following classes:

Edmonton Financial Accounts (1892-1915)

This series includes correspondence, ledgers and receipts. This series contains the following classes:

  • Class 1: Journal detailing income and expenditures, 1892-1915
  • Class 2: Cash book detailing income and expenditures, 1892-1902
  • Class 3: Ledger detailing finances of various departments and listing the major areas of public expenditure, 1892-1899 (includes index)
  • Class 4 : Ledger detailing the financial situation of the Town and listing the major areas of expenditure and sources of revenue, 1899-1904 (includes index)
  • Class 5: Two cheque books, 1894-1896
  • Class 6: Correspondence, receipts and financial statements, 1896-1904

This series contains debenture certificates and tax collector's and assessment rolls from the Village of West Edmonton, as well as the assessment rolls for the West Edmonton School District No. 2320.

Commissioners' Reports (1906-1932)

The files in Sub-series 10.1 consist of an accounts ledger (1909-1920); Commissioner's reports to City Council (1923-1928); City of Edmonton monthly Departmental reports and statistics (1927- April 1932); and City of Edmonton Engineering Department summary of revenue and expenditures (1923, 1925-1927). Note that duplicates of these reports are also found in RG-11 Series 10.2, with the monthly Departmental reports and statistics and Engineering Department summaries often attached as addendum to the Commissioner's reports

John Joseph Duggan fonds

This fonds consists of personal papers of John J. Duggan as well as some records for the Town/City of Strathcona, including Duggan’s mayoral candidacy.
The photographs are predominantly of the activities of the Old Timers’ association but there is also one of the first hand car into Edmonton.
