This series consists of GALA’s administrative records including their bylaws and constitution, financial statements, meeting minutes and correspondence. In addition, there are copies of GALA grant applications, and records related to a GALA sponsored Symposium entitled “Flaunting It!” held in Edmonton in 1990. The meeting minutes and documents of the GALA-Police Liaison Committee are retained in this series, although after 1994, the Committee broadens its title to the LGBTQ Community/Edmonton Police Service Liaison Committee, and committee records continue until 2005.

This series contains petitions submitted to City Council. It includes the following:

  • 1979 petition to reduce the mill rate (sampled) [box 1]
  • 1980 petition to declare City Hall a Municipal Historic Resource [boxes 1 and 2]
  • 1985 letters and petitions in support of a proposed Cultural Policy as presented by the Mayor's Task Force on Culture [boxes 3 and 4]
  • 1986 petition to protest proposed garbage dump at 259 Avenue and 17 Street NE [box 5]
  • 1987 petition to protest budget cuts to curtail DATS transportation to ACT Centre [box 5]
  • 1987 petition to have Edmonton declared a Nuclear Weapons Free Zone [box 6]
  • 1988 petition in favour of the maintenance of the present airline service at the Edmonton Municipal Airport, and the continuation of scheduled commercial air service into the Edmonton Municipal Airport, and against additional restriction upon airline operations at the said Airport or the consolidation of airline operations at the Edmonton International Airport [box 7]

Sporting Associations

This series consists of two sub-series: the Edmonton Roughnecks Recreation Association (ERRA) and a subseries of Sporting Associations/Gay Games records. The ERRA records include administrative files, promotional materials, tournament information, and framed and matted team photographs. There are also photographs of social activities, and a framed set of volleyball tournament medals. Included are items of ERRA clothing, including a tee shirt, baseball pants, and baseball socks. The gay games are represented in 6 files (dating 1984-1994), and there is 1 file concerning the Gay and Lesbian Sports Council of Edmonton. Finally there are two files documenting two fundraising events that featuring Olympic athlete, Mark Tewksbury.

This series consists of property and building inventories that the Old Strathcona Foundation collected and created for the purposes of historical preservation. Although some files were created by other institutions, such as the Alberta Provincial Government, with the originals existing in their own archival repositories, they were retained because their presence in the fonds conveys the efforts the Foundation took to establish their own heritage preservation system.

The series consists of scrapbooks created by the Edmonton Art Gallery and invitations received by the Edmonton Art Gallery. The scrapbooks contain clippings, pamphlets, brochures, and various textual records collected by the EAG.

The series consists of records pertaining to the operation and administrative functions of the Edmonton Art Gallery. Included in the series are financial records, reports, correspondence, certificates, and promotional materials. Also included in the series are plans relating to the acquisition of land for new gallery, records related to the Edmonton Art Club, and architecture design drawings for the gallery.
The series also includes records from the Blow Condell family who donated money to build the Edmonton Art Gallery in 1962. The building was named the Arthur Blow Condell Memorial Building after Dr. William Newton and Abigail Edith Condell's son who died in 1910.
