Brian Dale fonds

The fonds consists of a panorama photograph of the 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles, ‘C’ Squadron from Edmonton.
The 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles was organized in December 1914 under the command of Lieut.-Col. F.O. Sissons and mobilized at Edmonton and Medicine Hat. The troops left Montreal in June 1914 aboard The Megantic and arrived in England in June 1915. By September the troops were in France. In January 1916 the troops were absorbed by the 1st and 2nd Battalions, Canadian Mounted Rifles. They were disbanded in December 1917.
There are no Dale’s listed in the 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles Nominal Roll. However, ‘Cruikshank’ is written on the back of the photo and Charles Cruikshank is listed in the nominal roll as the next of kin for Private David Ritchie Richardson of Edmonton, AB.

The fonds consists of photos taken by Eric Bland for the Edmonton Bulletin in the last five years of the Bulletin’s existence (April 1947-January 1951) (EA-600). The photos include Edmonton personalities, accidents, events, clubs and societies, buildings (including churches, schools and hospitals), commerce, industry, transportation and military.
The fonds also includes images used in the publication 'Edmonton Bulletin Special Edition 1911' (EB-26). This publication gave a history of Edmonton to that point. The photographs include people, houses, buildings businesses, street scenes, bridges and transportation.

  • a one-page hand written personal account of James W. Taylor's time in South Africa, 1901-1902 (includes place, date and notes).
  • 7 pages of typewritten accounts from James W. Taylor's diary in South Africa from February 24, 1902 to June 1, 1902; Certificate of Discharge from the South African Constabulary, February 21, 1903;
  • a pass from the South African Constabulary, 1903;
    The photographs are also from James Taylor’s military carrier and include Canadian troops in South Africa.

The collection consists of personal items, photographs, stories, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings and memorabilia relating to the experiences of some Edmontonians in the Second World War. This collection consists of correspondence, blueprints, design proposals, reports, and a wide variety of records generated by the City of Edmonton and the XI Commonwealth Games Canada (1978) Foundation. The Foundation records, which make up over fifty percent of the collection, have been organized according to an existing file index and numbering system.

The collection has been divided into the following four series. Wherever possible this division was done with respect to the original order of the records. The series are as follows:
