Lew Woodruff of Georgia Tech., to Lyle's left, and Jay O'Neal from Oklahoma had just completed day-long flights from Altanta, Ga. and Oklahoma City and will just have time to get settled before starting to line up the work schedule with Lyle for the camp opening at Clarke Stadium (newspaper clipping).

Full Scale Tiger Hunt - Quarry got so scarce at some stages of last night's exhibition, in name only, at Clarke Stadium that Eskimo blockers ran out of targets and had to double team. Here guard Art Walker (#50) and end Joe Mobra cut down Lou Elias to bla

  • A Little Of This - Esk defensive half stalwart Bill Smith may have been dwarfed by Calgary's lanky end Ernie Warlick on this play at Clarke Stadium last night but it didn't stop the game homebrew from batting down a pass from Knoby Wirkowski that almost netted the Stamps a 30-yard gain late in the thrill-a-minute 32-28 victory for Edmonton (newspaper clipping).

  • Esks Prove Top Mudders in Squishball Scramble.
  • Water Polo Anyone - It was that bad at rain-drenched Clarke Stadium Saturday night but you would have never known it the way Eskimos and BC Lions cavorted through 60 minutes of the most miserable football conditions imaginable. Here the water sprites splash through ankle-deep puddles as BC fullback By Bailey (#88) is dumped face first to the soggy turf by Esk safety Oscar Kruger (#94) and halfback Steve Bendiak. Lions sliding through the mush are fullback Don Vicic (#92) and Hawaiian tackle Curt Iauke (#63). Others shown are end Vic Chapman (#74) and tackle Urban Henry (#65). Esks pursuit men are Art Walker (#50) and Don Stephenson (#41) (Edmonton Journal - newspaper clipping).

  • Tough Going Ahead - Eskimos' regular defensive safety Oscar Kruger, who saw action on the offensive half line for the first thime this season at Winnipeg last night along with four other homebrew backs, found the Bombers a sharp-tackling lot on this punt runback midway through the third quarter. 'Peg's Garland Warren is latched on to Oscar while Cornel Piper moves in for the kill. Esks in the background are halfbacks Jo-Bob Smith and Leigh McMillan, also members of the suicide squad. Mainly using an all-Canadian backfield, Esks lost 43-13 (newspaper clipping).

  • Slippery Sam - Houston ace Don Flynn had his greatest hours as an Eskimoe over the crucial holiday weekend, sparking Esks to a pair of thrilling victories over Calgary Stampeders. Here he is shown at the tag end of a 17-yard gain and two plays later he took a 26-yard pass from Jackie Parker for a touchdown late in the second quarter. Left with an armful of air is Calgary fullback and linerbacker Jim Bakhtiar while an unidentifed teammate nails Flynn from behind. Rushing up too late for assistance is cornerback Lynn Bottoms. Esks won 17-10 Saturday and 19-14 Monday at Calgary (newspaper clipping).
