This series of records is related to the Commissioners' role of overseeing the City's utilities. For many years the City operated most of the utilities services within the City. Eventually, many of these were sold off into private ownership or arm's length governing bodies. This series contains the following subseries:

6.1 Telephones
This subseries consist of records relating to the Edmonton Telephones System.

6.2 Power / Light
This subseries consist of records relating to Edmonton Power, the power plants, and the provision of street lighting in the City.

6.3 Water and Sanitation
This subseries consist of records relating to the provision of water to citizens, the water treatment plants, dumps, the incinerator, and other waste management works.

6.4 Natural Resources / Fuels
This subseries consist of records relating to gas and oil contracts, coal mining and other provisions for providing heat and fuels within the city.

During the First and Second World Wars the Commissioners took on a variety of duties relating to providing services to Edmontonians, serving as liaison for the delivery of Federal initiatives, and monitoring threats to civilians and the nation. Some post-war activities also generated the records found in this series. Subjects include air raid precautions, civil defense, military matters, rationing, immigration, deportation, and subversive activities, as well as the construction of the Cenotaph and Memorial Hall.

This series contains reports and publications submitted to the City Commissioners by both internal City departments and third parties. Many of these reports were then sent on to City Council or Committees. In instances where an agenda item was known, it was included in square brackets.

The fonds consists of materials created and gathered by Richard Awid in his research on the Arab pioneers of Northern Alberta and of Muslim families in the Edmonton area. The records include correspondence, a flyer for his election run for alderman, booklets on Muslim pioneers in Northern Alberta, and cultural and religious association communications.

The collection consists of original material removed from the City of Edmonton Archives Clippings collection as well as records found within the collections that either lack clear provenance or exist as discreet items.

This file consists of photographs originally intended to go in the book "Old Trails and Baer Tales."

This file consists of Tony Baer's autobiography and family history covering what he knew of his parents life in Austria starting in 1878, to their immigration with their oldest kids to Canada, up to his own adult life up to the late 1950's. The first section of the book has been digitized and is available above.
