Lindsay was born in Scotland in 1946, and graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1967, having studied printmaking. He moved to Edmonton in 1970, where he exhibited paintings and published a book of poetry with Christopher Ringrose. He moved to Victoria in 1974 where he continued working as an artist and as an activist for art on the local and national scene.
