Valley Zoo

This sub-series contains records created in the planning and operation of the Storyland Valley Zoo. The material includes correspondence as well as records relating to administration, strategic planning, facility and exhibit development, animal acquisition and care, programming, finances, personnel, external organizations, and media coverage.

The sub-series includes photographs of animals and zoo facilities around 1970 (EA-20-623 to EA-20-633), as well as postcards of Edmonton and photos of Fort Edmonton Park (EA-20-635 to EA-20-641), and historic photographs of the construction of the High Level Bridge, Fort Edmonton, the Legislature, and the Edmonton Ski Club (EA-20-642 to EA-20-645). The subseries also includes a set of postcards depicting the Valley Zoo from ca. 1970 (EA-20-5471 to EA-20-5500).

Universiade '83

The Parks and Recreation Department was very involved in the 1983 World University Games. The Department worked in conjunction with the Federation Internationale du Sportif Universitaire to schedule and prepare facilities for the games. The City of Edmonton also appointed an International Events Coordinator to deal almost exclusively with Universiade '83. The role of the Parks and Recreation Department also included finance and budgeting, transportation, and media and public relations.

This subseries includes administrative records including correspondence, reports, and minutes of committee meetings from the Universiade '83 Corporation and the City of Edmonton Parks and Recreation Department relating to the bid to host the 1983 World University Games and the subsequent organization of the event. There are also records relating to the organization and construction of facilities for Universiade '83, as well as correspondence, brochures, and programs from other major sporting events held in Edmonton and their relationship to Universiade '83. There are also bulletins, notices, and minutes of meetings from the Federation Internationale du Sportif Universitaire, and press clippings and media releases relating to Universiade '83.

Tennis Club

This series consists of records concerning the operations and functions of the Garneau Tennis Club. The Tennis Club was one of the five original committees when the Garneau Community League was incorporated in 1962. Like the Lawn Bowling Club, the Tennis Club held a degree of independence from the rest of the Garneau Community League. That independence was somewhat curtailed in the late 1970s due to a change in Provincial Law regarding the way financial reporting was to be conducted. This series contains membership lists, financial statements, newsletters, correspondence, and minutes.

This series consists of two sub-series: the Edmonton Roughnecks Recreation Association (ERRA) and a subseries of Sporting Associations/Gay Games records. The ERRA records include administrative files, promotional materials, tournament information, and framed and matted team photographs. There are also photographs of social activities, and a framed set of volleyball tournament medals. Included are items of ERRA clothing, including a tee shirt, baseball pants, and baseball socks. The gay games are represented in 6 files (dating 1984-1994), and there is 1 file concerning the Gay and Lesbian Sports Council of Edmonton. Finally there are two files documenting two fundraising events that featuring Olympic athlete, Mark Tewksbury.

The fonds consists of photographs pertaining to Rotary theatrical productions and minstrel shows, the Holy Trinity Church drama group, and C.J.C.A. Radio orchestra. The fonds also consists of a photograph of R.W. Drake and of the 19th Alberta Dragoon's cricket Team.

This fonds consists of records from the Royal Lawn Bowling Club from the years 1926 until 1974. The fonds contains correspondence, financial statements, minutes, organization constitutions and by-laws, tournament rules, yearbooks, and meeting minutes for the Royal Ladies Lawn Bowling Club. Also included are two trophies: the Col. Simms Challenger Cup, and the National Home Furniture Trophy. The correspondence includes communications with elected officials, sponsors, other lawn bowling organizations, and members. Also included in the correspondence are several proposed floor plans for the new clubhouse which was built in 1958.
