William J. Nutt fonds

The fonds consists of a history of the life of John Frances Grant compiled by William J. Nutt. The manuscript covers the time frame of John Grant's life, 1831-1907.

John F. Grant came from a Metis family who were active in the fur trade in Lower Canada and the Northwest from about the 1770s. John was born 7 Jan 1832 to Marie Ann Breland and Richard Grant in Fort des Prairies, later known as Fort Edmonton. His father, Richard "Handsome" Grant, was an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company at the time. John’s mother died when he was a toddler and he was sent to live with his grandmother and aunt in Quebec.

John Grant was educated at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec before joining his father who became chief factor at Fort Hall, Montana. John later worked as a trapper, trader and settler before returning to Canada. He eventually settled in Alberta and died in Edmonton in 1907.

The fonds also consists of photographs of John Francis Grant, his father William, and photographs of paintings of John’s sister Jane Grant Lauranger, and John’s grandmother Marguerite Laframboise Grant.

Gretchen Clink fonds

The fonds consists of a letter to Gretchen Clink from Ruth (Matheson) Buck, 17 Aug 1967. The letter includes some reminiscences of their time in Battleford together, as well as the activities of Ruth and her sisters, ‘The Matheson Girls’, to celebrate the 1967 Expo.

There is also a 1971 note and letter from Gretchen to Cam Finlay, the then Director of the City of Edmonton Archives. The note and letter include some information and reminiscences by Gretchen of some noted Edmontonians and Albertans, (Mrs. John T. Robertson, Dr. William M. McKay, J.W. & J.B. Tyrrell, Colin Fraser, Fred Rowland, and Alex Rowland).

Gretchen’s note also includes a pitch promoting Maclean Hunter’s historical map which, at the time, was given complimentary with a McLean’s subscription.

The fonds consists of correspondence, certificates, manuscripts, clippings, programmes, and pamphlets from the various aspects of Howard Stutchbury’s work and involvement in the Edmonton community, including the Alberta Returned Soldier Commission, the Alberta Trade Commission, the oil and tar sands industry, the Canadian Manufacturers' Association, the Edmonton Safety Council, the Alberta Music Festival, and the Tuxis Parliament of Alberta.

Richard MacDonald fonds

The fonds consists of programs and photographs of theatre and other cultural events, in many of which Richard and Inez MacDonald were part of the company, primarily as set designer and make-up artist, respectively. The records also include newspaper clippings, correspondence, and magazines relating to the life and career of Richard MacDonald and to the theatre and radio in Edmonton, notably the Edmonton Little Theatre and radio station CKUA.

Mann, Williamson Family fonds

The fonds consists of records belonging to Samuel Williamson and his daughter Margaret Williamson Mann. They include the ceremonial pamphlet for the 1905 Inauguration of Alberta containing congratulatory messages from King Edward VII and Sir Alfred Lyttelton, British Colonial Secretary, as well as the speeches by Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Governor General Earl Grey. There is also a metal button for the Children’s Parade of the Inauguration Ceremonies.

The photographs include Samuel and Robert Williamson at the 3rd Annual Alberta-Saskatchewan Excursion to California in 1913.
