This series consists of building, sewer, and plumbing permit ledgers for the City of Edmonton from 1902-1976, and 1996-1998, as well as aggregates of building permits issued based on type of building between 1947 and 1973. The City requires a building permit be issued prior to the beginning of construction of any project. The ledgers contain information regarding these permits.

This series contains copies of photographs donated to the Archives by the Edmonton Public Library. Photos 1 to 49 are images of individuals from the ca. 1914 publication Men and Makers of Edmonton. Photos 50 to 64 depict library facilities, programming, and staff. Photos 65 and 66 are early shots of the North Saskatchewan River.

This series consists of records created as the City of Edmonton expanded their boarders to annex surrounding lands and communities. It includes records of the Royal Commission on Metropolitan Development (the McNalley Commission), annexation and attempted annexations of Strathcona County, Jasper Place, Riverbend, and St. Albert. It also includes records regarding major city lead developments such as the Downtown Pedestrian Circulation System, the Mill Creek Ravine, the Aurum Dump, Borden Park, Kinsmen Sports Centre, and the Genesee Power Plant. This series also includes blueprints of City Developments including buildings such as City Hall, parks, roads, and transit developments.

Fonds consists of transcriptions of court cases and hearings, correspondence, bylaws, contracts, architectural drawings, maps, photographs and artwork relating to city activities the law branch believed where of historical significance.

An order has been imposed on the material. The arrangement includes multiple series based on the function law was serving within the City. Within each series the records were processed following the order received from the creator as much as possible.

Payroll

This series contains payroll records for City employees. The payroll ledgers include employee, name, position, rate of pay, deductions, net pay, and notes. The series also includes a staff ledger, which is an alphabetical listing of municipal employees, including name, position, wage, wage increases, date of appointment, and the reason for their departure.

Fonds consists of records kept regarding the different types of licenses granted by the City in the early 1900s. It also includes examples of licenses purchased from the City.

Engineering Department
CA EDM RG-101-1 · Reeks · 1906 - 1972; predominant 1952 - 1964
Part of Town of Jasper Place fonds

The Engineering Department was established in 1958 when the Department of Public Works and the Department of Public Utilities were amalgamated. The department was responsible for the construction and maintenance of Town infrastructure, such as streets, parks, and water and sewer lines, as well as for providing garbage collection and metre reading services. The Department was also tasked with building the Jasper Place Sports Centre. When the Town of Jasper Place amalgamated with the City of Edmonton, the Engineering Department was subsumed into the larger City Engineer's Department.

This series consists of records created and collected by the Jasper Place Engineering Department. It includes project reports, updates, finances, correspondence, police reports on damage to infrastructure, personnel, and blueprints. This series also includes a plaque for the First Street Paving Program.

The files in Sub-series 10.1 consist of an accounts ledger (1909-1920); Commissioner's reports to City Council (1923-1928); City of Edmonton monthly Departmental reports and statistics (1927- April 1932); and City of Edmonton Engineering Department summary of revenue and expenditures (1923, 1925-1927). Note that duplicates of these reports are also found in RG-11 Series 10.2, with the monthly Departmental reports and statistics and Engineering Department summaries often attached as addendum to the Commissioner's reports

This fonds consists of materials which were collected and created by the City's Commissioners through their function of overseeing all aspects of City administration. The fonds includes correspondence with City staff, provincial and federal representatives, other municipalities, corporations, community groups and the general public. It also contains reports and financial records relating to various departments, memoranda, committee minutes, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, photos, maps, and architectural drawings.

An order has been imposed on the material. The arrangement includes 11 series and multiple subseries. The series are as follows:
