The fonds consists of one photograph of the 1st Depot Battalion (Alberta).
Depot Battalions were created in central locations across Canada to handle the training of the final allotments of recruits. The recruits received minimal training at the Depot Battalions and were then sent to reserve battalions in England where they received the rest of their training. The 1st Depot Battalion was formed in 1917 and 1918 to provide reinforcements for the 10th, 31st, 49th and 50th Battalions through the 21st Canadian Reserve Battalion.
It is possible an ancestor or relative of Audrey Bourget is in the photo but this is not confirmed.

The fonds consists of a panorama photograph of the 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles, ‘C’ Squadron from Edmonton.
The 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles was organized in December 1914 under the command of Lieut.-Col. F.O. Sissons and mobilized at Edmonton and Medicine Hat. The troops left Montreal in June 1914 aboard The Megantic and arrived in England in June 1915. By September the troops were in France. In January 1916 the troops were absorbed by the 1st and 2nd Battalions, Canadian Mounted Rifles. They were disbanded in December 1917.
There are no Dale’s listed in the 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles Nominal Roll. However, ‘Cruikshank’ is written on the back of the photo and Charles Cruikshank is listed in the nominal roll as the next of kin for Private David Ritchie Richardson of Edmonton, AB.

  • a one-page hand written personal account of James W. Taylor's time in South Africa, 1901-1902 (includes place, date and notes).
  • 7 pages of typewritten accounts from James W. Taylor's diary in South Africa from February 24, 1902 to June 1, 1902; Certificate of Discharge from the South African Constabulary, February 21, 1903;
  • a pass from the South African Constabulary, 1903;
    The photographs are also from James Taylor’s military carrier and include Canadian troops in South Africa.

Aitken Family fonds

The fonds consists of materials largely related to the life and death of Robert M. Aitken. Although his early life in Edmonton is represented through his yearbooks and clippings regarding his sports activities with local leagues, the majority of the records focus on his military career beginning with the Royal Canadian Airforce (R.C.A.F.) through to his transfer to the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. Besides material created by Robert in the course of his duties, records created by Marjory Aitken, his mother, are present throughout the fonds, most notably in letters received from correspondents regarding her son’s death. The photographs consist of images taken and collected by Marjory throughout Robert’s life, including of his childhood, military service, and eventual gravesite.

The fonds consists of photographs that reflect the involvement of John Chorley and Thomas Brown in the Canadian military and cover WWI and WWII time periods.
The photographs pertaining to John Chorley are training and parade photos of the 51st Battalion, CEF, based out of Edmonton (1915) (EA-296-1 to EA-296-4).
The photographs pertaining to Thomas G. Brown include group portraits of officers, sergeants and platoons of the 51st Battalion and Edmonton Fusiliers (EA-296-5 to EA-296-8, EB-42).

Hilda Mary Robinson fonds

The fonds consists of materials created or collected by Hilda Mary Robinson during her role as a librarian and volunteer. These organizations and institutions include Northwest Industries Limited, the University of Alberta, All Saints Anglican Cathedral, Concordia College, Edmonton Klondike Days, the Library Association of Alberta, the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, and the Royal Canadian Legion. The records of each of these organizations consist of publications, correspondence with members, and some notes Hilda Robinson might have taken while attending a meeting of the organization. Also included are various published materials from institutions that Hilda Robinson was employed by or volunteered for. Most of the materials are Concordia yearbooks which included staff member photos that included Hilda Robinson as a library staff member.

Rodney Pike fonds

The fonds consists of materials created by Rodney Pike between ca. 1980 and 1995. The fonds consists of the biographical record and family history of Frank Pike, father of the donor. A later accrual has an essay about the Westward Ho School, a boys' school started by Mr. W. H. Nightingale ca. 1904. Some of the students listed: Howard Emery, Kenny Kinnaird, Otis Bishopric, Dick Secord, Harry Morris, Alan Harvey, Jack Dinning, George Field, Jim Weaver, Kelly Matthews, Ken Pirie, Munro Williamson, Fred Pardu, Vernon Hayward, Peter Pitcher, and the sons of the Wilkins, Blakey, Christie, Gaetz, Matheson, Jamieson, Field and Silas families. The fonds also includes an essay on old Glenora and Dr. W. D. Ferris and his family. In 1997, Rodney Pike donated material he gathered in 1988 for a Historical Society of Alberta lecture on "The Prairie Contribution to the Canadian Navy." This material includes his own recollections of the Second World War, as well as information he gathered from friends who were also from the west and who served in the RCN.
