Lillian Maze fonds

The fonds consists of the following:

  • File 1: Article titled 'The Big Hotel' by Lillian Maze about the Columbia Stopping House, which was published in the Edmonton Journal (1953) and formed the basis of an article published in the Spring 1964 edition of The Alberta Historical Review. There is also a souvenir booklet 'Souvenir of the Edmonton Schools - Issued at the Opening of the High School, May 9, 1911' (1911). The Edmonton High School was later known as Victoria School.
  • File 2: Painting by Lillian Maze's daughter and Edmonton Art Club member Kathleen Anne Elizabeth (Betty) Hickey titled "Columbia Stopping House". The building was located at the corner of Grierson (101A Avenue) and 96 Street. The painting was formerly described as EAA-66-1.

The photographs include EA-512-1: a portrait of Lillian Maze [ca. 1980] and EA-512: a photograph of Columbia House [ca. 1910].

The fonds consists predominantly of textual records of Richard Henry and Annie York Secord, and their son Richard York Secord, and to a lesser extent Margaret Calder Secord (wife of Richard York), Isobel Secord, Lena Secord McFayden and Gene Secord Keltie (sisters of Richard York), and family of Richard David Secord (son of Richard York).

The photographs consist of family and friends, farming and business activities, events and street scenes of Edmonton.

The fonds consists of records pertaining to the Edmonton Opera Association from 1963 to 1996. The materials include programs from Edmonton opera productions, along with invitations, brochures, and newsletters. The fonds also consists of letters wishing congratulations and sending regrets for the Edmonton Opera Association's 25th anniversary celebration in 1988. Also included in the fonds are issues from 1981 to 1983 of Encore, the official publication of The Edmonton Symphony Society, The Alberta Ballet Company, and The Edmonton Opera Association, and a poster of the 1990-1991 Edmonton opera season.

The fonds consists predominantly of material relating to Mickey Macdonald's acting career, Alan Fraser Macdonald's legal and military career, and his involvement in community organizations, as well as their family life. The records include theatre programmes, correspondence, personal notes and writings, news clippings, and photographs.

To a lesser extent there are also records relating to other members of the extended Macdonald-Clifton families, particularly John Kenneth Macdonald and Therese Fraser Holland (Alan's parents), Henry Frances Holland and Selina Fraser (Alan's maternal grandparents), Faith Clifton (Mickey's mother), Bruce Fraser Macdonald (Alan's brother), Vernis McCuaig (Mickey's sister), and Brian Macdonald (Mickey and Alan's son).

The fonds consists of records pertaining to the Kellet, Wankel, and Dornan families, St. Anthony's Parish and School, Strathcona, and the Catholic community in Edmonton.

Included in the records are Mary's family scrapbooks and the scrapbook-cum-manuscript, 'The First Fifty Years', covering life in early Strathcona and Edmonton, 1860-1991, predominantly 1890-1955.

The fonds also includes photographs of family, friends, St. Anthony School groups, and neighbours from the Strathcona area, and an album of photographs from the play 'The Lass of Limerick Town' presented by St. Anthony's choir and youth group for the church's 50th anniversary in 1955.

Elly De Jongh fonds

The fonds consists of records relating to the Urban Reform Group of Edmonton (URGE), including production of a 1978 historical calendar, Board minutes, reports and correspondence. It also contains records relating to the Society for the Protection of Architectural Resources in Edmonton (SPARE) and personal correspondence.
The photographs consist mostly of buildings and street scenes in Edmonton and Toronto, ca. 1980, taken as part of research into heritage buildings for SPARE. They include the Ross Brothers and Brighton Block in Edmonton, and the St. Lawrence Market and Gooderham Building (flatiron) in Toronto (EA-560). One photograph is a portrait of Elly De Jongh used for an Edmonton Historical Board award in 1984.
The artwork consists of an ink drawing of Primrose House, 1979, as part of research on heritage buildings for SPARE (EAA-113).
