The Commission was composed of Town Councillors, representatives from local school boards, and appointees from the community. In later years, the Recreation Commission was led by a superintendent. This position was filled by Jack Boddington from June 10, 1960, until amalgamation, at which point the Recreation Commission ceased operations and its functions were subsumed into the City of Edmonton's Parks and Recreation Department.

Lawn Bowling Club
CA EDM MS-404-6 · Serie · 1956 - 1983
Parte de Garneau Community League fonds

This series contains materials concerning the operations and functions of the Garneau Lawn Bowling Club. The club was officially founded in 1955. The Lawn Bowling Club was one of the five original committees when the Garneau Community League was incorporated in 1962. The Lawn Bowling Club, like the Tennis Club, held a degree of independence from the Community League until the late 1970s due to a change in Provincial Law regarding the way financial reporting was to be conducted. The Club was divided into two clubs: Men’s Lawn Bowling and Ladies Lawn Bowling. The Men’s Lawn Bowling Club concluded operations in 1983 while the Ladies Lawn Bowling Club continued. The reason for the closure of the men's club was dwindling membership due to the construction of superior lawn bowling greens at the Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Club following the 1978 Commonwealth Games. The rest of the lawn bowling club ended in 1990 due to insufficient funds to maintain the greens. Some of the remaining club members joined the Royal Lawn Bowling Club. When Catalyst Theatre began its lease of the Community Centre, the greens were converted into sand volleyball courts. This series consists of financial statements, a ledger, correspondence, club minutes, photographs, badges, pins, and a championship flag.

CA EDM RG-17-17.19 · Serie · 1956, 1958 - 1969, 1991 - 1993
Parte de City of Edmonton. Planning Department fonds

The Edmonton District Planning Commission was established in 1950 to manage urban growth in the Edmonton area. It was one of several district planning commissions established in the province that year. Composed of representatives from multiple municipalities around Edmonton, the Commission proposed plans to local and provincial governments and conducted studies and reports. The name was changed in August 1963 to the Edmonton Regional Planning Commission. In 1982, they became the Edmonton Regional Metropolitan Planning Commission and focused on a smaller, more centralized area. In 1994, the Commission was dissolved and the newly established Capital Region Forum assumed responsibility for planning in the Edmonton district.

The records in this series were kept for reference by the City of Edmonton, however the City was not the office of primary responsibility.
