Edmonton Financial Accounts (1892-1915)

This series includes correspondence, ledgers and receipts. This series contains the following classes:

  • Class 1: Journal detailing income and expenditures, 1892-1915
  • Class 2: Cash book detailing income and expenditures, 1892-1902
  • Class 3: Ledger detailing finances of various departments and listing the major areas of public expenditure, 1892-1899 (includes index)
  • Class 4 : Ledger detailing the financial situation of the Town and listing the major areas of expenditure and sources of revenue, 1899-1904 (includes index)
  • Class 5: Two cheque books, 1894-1896
  • Class 6: Correspondence, receipts and financial statements, 1896-1904
  • Class 7: Insurance policy for the City of Edmonton protecting from embezzlement by the Secretary-Treasurer, 1900

Contracts

This series includes certified copies of agreement between the corporation of Edmonton and various other parties. This series also includes agreements made by the Town of Strathcona between 1899 and 1909.

Civic Properties

This series contains ledgers describing land purchased and owned by the City of Edmonton and used for conducting the business of the municipality, as well as certificates of ownership and duplicate certificates of title for select municipal properties.

Alexander J.H. McCauley Family

The series consists of records of Alexander J.H. McCauley, predominantly musical programmes, many of which list him as the pianist or accompanist. The other programmes where he is not listed, it is presumed these were concerts or performances that Alexander attended.

The series also includes a musical biography of Alexander’s son, William A. McCauley.

Julia Alberta McCauley Norquay Family

The series consists of narratives and records on the history of the Julia McCauley Norquay family, including a poem written by Marjorie van de Sande. There are also records and photographs of the Elizabeth Norquay and Bernard Aylen family.

Financial Records

This series includes records related to the financial responsibilities of the Town of Strathcona and City of Strathcona. It includes tax assessment rolls, tax sale ledgers, ledgers of receipts and expenditures, information about utilities, and a general financial ledger.

Alexander McCauley Family

The series consists of the records of Alexander McCauley’s construction and moving business including booklets with the costs and amount of construction material used for various projects and clients. There are also cancelled cheques, most signed by Alex McCauley, but then signed by Alex’s wife, Elizabeth, in the last few months of the business as Alex was ill for a few months before his death in 1908.

Correspondence, Office of the Secretary-Treasurer

The office of Secretary-Treasurer was first held by George F. Downes (1899-1906), then H. G. Clarke (1906-1909), and finally C. E. K. Cox (1910-1912).

This series includes correspondence from the office of the Secretary-Treasurer.

The series is divided into four subseries:

  • Subseries 5.1: Letterbook of Outgoing Correspondence (November 1, 1899 -October 6, 1906)
  • Subseries 5.2: Letterbook of Outgoing Correspondence (October 8, 1906 -July 17, 1907)
  • Subseries 5.3: Correspondence (May 1901 -March 15, 1907)
  • Subseries 5.4: Correspondence (March 15, 1907 -March 1912)

Subseries 5.4 also includes two photographs of Sollitt House and Yard: EA-10-2739 and EA-10-2740.
