Florence Jean Cahill fonds

The fonds consists predominantly of the records of Florence Jean Cahill, including school and teaching records, memorial card and letters from family. There are also photographs of some members of the Cahill and O’Callaghan families, including Cliff Cahill (a cousin from the United States who was killed in action in France, 1918), Everett Cahill (a cousin in the UK Royal Flying Corps in 1917), and Walter O’Callaghan’s parents, Bridget and Edward O’Callaghan.

Frank Bernard Jamerson fonds

The fonds consists of a historical and biographical narrative handwritten by Frank Bernard Jamerson regarding Black immigration into western Canada as well as the Black experience in the prairies, specifically northern Alberta Black communities. The first file in the fonds consists of this narrative while the second file consists of newspaper clippings, family photographs, an anniversary booklet of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, and correspondence used by Jamerson in the creation of his narrative.

Fonds reflects the evolution of the Community and Family Services Department and the responsibilities it was tasked with during its existence. The textual records consist of: annual reports, statistics, financial statements, correspondence, policy statements, newsletters, minutes, photographs, forms, mission statements, lists of citizens, and other material. The original record order as found in 2016 has been retained, though an intellectual arrangement has been provided in the finding aid.

This fonds contains meeting minutes from the Civic Service Association. In June of 1914, the Civic Service Club voted to become the Civic Service Association. The fonds consists of photocopies of news clippings from the scrapbook created by Harold Brown. The news clippings relate to the Crestwood Community League and its predecessors, the 142nd Street and Jasper Place Community Leagues. There are also some early annual reports, newsletters, and correspondence of Harold P. Brown, the secretary of the league for many years and a member of the executive and president of the Federation of Community Leagues in the 1920s.
The photographs (1915-1924) cover events in the community, likely held by the community league (Maypole dancing, parades, children playing in parks, theatrical performances, parks), buildings (Alberta Legislature), roads and bridges, CKUA radio studio and portraits of Harold P. Brown and Cyril Geoffrey Wates.
