Sin títuloRobert Campbell was born in Dumbarton, Scotland in 1883 and moved to Canada in 1906, where he homesteaded near the town of Minden. Campbell began painting in 1916 under the watercolourist Victor W. Burnard, after returning to England during the First World War. After the war he moved to Edmonton, where he worked as a dental technician and continued his artistic endeavors. He was a charter member of the Edmonton Art Club and the Artists Society of Alberta. He was also one of those responsible for founding the Banff School of Fine Arts. Robert Campbell died in 1967.
Joseph van der Gracht was born in the Netherlands in 1880. He married Florence Ethel Ross, and joined the Edmonton Art Club in 1929. He moved with his family to Vancouver around 1933. He died in 1959.

Robert Smith Forrest (1871-1943) was a Scottish portrait painter and etcher who exhibited between 1908 and 1934.
This work was part of a series of 6 titled "Principal Series I" by James Lindsay. Lindsay was born in Scotland in 1946, and graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1967, having studied printmaking. He moved to Edmonton in 1970, where he exhibited paintings and published a book of poetry with Christopher Ringrose. He moved to Victoria in 1974 where he continued working as an artist and as an activist for art on the local and national scene.
