This series consists of periodicals in the City of Edmonton Archives' collection. The material comes from a variety of sources and is arranged alphabetically by title.
This series includes material created at City Hall for ceremonial purposes, such as guest books; material relating to the City’s corporate identity such as flags, a tartan, and a City crest; and documents meant to raise awareness such as proclamations. It also includes discrete items relating to specific special events and miscellaneous reports collected by the department.
The material in this series is not part of a particular business unit, function, or Committee for which we have records. Since nothing else exists at present to contextualize the material, it has been described as a series of discrete items.
This series is comprised of local directories. It includes:
- Telephone directories listing individuals' and businesses' address and telephone number arranged alphabetically (1895-2019)
- Henderson's directories listing individuals' and businesses' address and telephone number arranged alphabetically and by address. These directories also include the person's occupation, and may include name of spouse and ownership status of the property (1895-1987).
- Numerical directories listing individuals' and businesses' address and telephone number arranged by address and by telephone number (1967-1999).
These records were created by the Heritage Planning Unit through their function of identifying and preserving historical buildings in Edmonton. The records include reports, publications, walking tours, correspondence, and operational files relating to the preservation of historical properties, including projects such as heritage surveys and inventories.
The series includes a full run of neighbourhood fact sheets documenting communities in Edmonton in the late 1980s and early 1990s (files 55-245). Also included are files containing information and correspondence around buildings of interest (files 296-1438), and buildings which have been demolished or moved from their original location (files 1590-1684).
Files 1685-1975 are designation files, and include information and correspondence related primarily to the conservation of properties which have been formally designated as Municipal Historical Resources.
