Biographical history

Helen McQueen was born on May 12, 1904 to Reverend Doctor David George McQueen and Catherine Robertson McQueen. She married Charles E. Learmonth in August 1934. They had three children together, Margaret McKinnon, Janet Martin and Robert Learmonth. She was an active member of the Archives and Landmarks Committee and the Edmonton Historical Board, as well as a member of the Northern Alberta Pioneers and Descendants and the Historical Society of Alberta. Charles E. Learmonth died on August 3, 1994 and Helen Learmonth died on October 19, 1994.

Scope and content

This collection consists of records of horse brands, souvenir programs, cards, invitations, memorabilia, City of Edmonton walking and driving tours, resource material and reports of the Heritage Sites Selection Committee, records of the start of the Edmonton Historical Board, the McKay Avenue School Archives and Museum, Fort Edmonton Historical Foundation, and biographies and notes about early settlers of Edmonton. This collection also includes paraphernalia and documentation from the wider McQueen family and several books on the history of Alberta.

Immediate source of acquisition

The collection was donated to the City of Edmonton Archives by Mrs. Helen Learmonth between 1979 and 1990. An additional donation was made by Margaret McKinnon and Robert Charles Learmonth on behalf of Helen in 1994.

The material was arranged by the archivist by topic.

The photographs were assigned item numbers with the prefix EA-371.

The cartographic material was assigned item numbers with the prefix EAM-110 and EAM-053.
