Scope and content
This series consists of correspondence, minutes, reports, scrapbooks and publications. An order has been imposed on the material. The arrangement includes 4 subseries. The subseries are as follows:
- Subseries 1: Administrative Records
- Subseries 2: Inspections
- Subseries 3: Investigations
- Subseries 4: Education
Immediate source of acquisition
This material was transferred to the City of Edmonton Archives between 1973 and 1998 directly from the Fire Department and the Emergency Response Department.
The material was arranged by the archivist by function. The original order of the Fire Prevention Scrapbook (1946-1969) was lost, and therefore an order was imposed. The pages were arranged by subject; however a full re-creation of the original order was not possible. The photographs were assigned item numbers with the prefix EA-89.

As was standard practice at the City of Edmonton Archives, photographs were separated from their textual records and processed and described in isolation. In 2017 the photos in EA-89 were intellectually repatriated as best as possible with the textual records and described in the arrangement which was imposed in 2014.
SubSeries 4.1 includes photos EA-89-128 through EA-89-298, which were copied from the scrapbooks described at the beginning of the subseries.
SubSeries 2 includes photos EA-89-102 through EA-89-118. They are believed to have been taken during fire inspections done by the Fire Department in 1960.
SubSeries 3 includes photos EA-89-16 through EA-89-83, and EA-89-91 through EA-89-93, which are images taken by the Fire Department of damage caused by fires between 1961 and 1972. The subseries also includes EA-89-94 through EA-89-101, which are images taken by the Department of the Provincial Secretary of damage caused by fires in 1960. These photos are under Crown Copyright.
SubSeries 4 includes photos EA-89-119 through EA-89-127 of the Sesame Street Fire Safety Workshop around 1975. It also includes EA-89-299 through EA-89-301, which are photos of the Fire Department Safety House taken around 1975 and 1990.
