Biographical history

David Leadbeater is an Oxford educated economist. He was elected to City Council in 1974 at the age of 27. He ran with the support of the Edmonton Voters Association (EVA) on a platform to increase the input of citizens and decrease the influence of big business and real estate developers. Often described as a Marxist, his positions on most issues tended to the left of the rest of Council. Mr. Leadbeater came from a prominent Anglican family in the city, his father was the Reverend Tom Leadbeater of Holy Trinity Church. He did not seek reelection in 1977 and returned to teaching economics at the University of Alberta.

The fonds consists of materials created by David Leadbeater of Edmonton between 1974 and 1977. The fonds consists of minutes, budgets, reports, brochures and other materials derived from City Council committees during the period that Mr. Leadbeater was an alderman.
