Administrative history

“Dania”, the Danish Society of Edmonton was formed in 1921. It was dormant during the war years but as Danish immigrants to Canada increased after 1945 the Society was revived as a social and athletic club for Danes and people of Danish decent in the Edmonton area. As a society Dania strives to promote Danish heritage among the descendants of those early members who arrived from Denmark since 1920. Throughout the year, Dania puts on various activities including dinner and dance nights offering traditional Danish food. It is currently known as Dania – The Danish-Canadian Society of Edmonton.

Custodial history

Vera Neilsen was Secretary for the Danish Society of Edmonton for 15 years, retiring in 1971 and was made an Honourary Member of the club.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of one letter from Vera Neilsen describing the early history of the club. It includes references to Tage Aaquist, Art Anderson, Erling Peterson and the Danish Canadian Soccer Club.
