Biographical history
Christina “Tena” McQueen was born in Edmonton, N.W.T, [ca. 1898] to Rev. David G. and Catherine (Robertson) McQueen. She was educated at McKay Avenue and Victoria High Schools, Camrose Normal School and the University of Alberta, where she was vice-president of the Student's Union, and received a B.A., 1922. She was active in hockey in high school, 1914-1916, and university and played for the Edmonton Monarchs, the first community women's hockey team in Edmonton, 1923-1926.
She married Duncan McKnight in 1929. She had two sons, David and Alex. She taught school in Edmonton, Duffield and Spruce Grove until her retirement.
She served on the executive of the Northern Alberta Pioneers and Old Timers Association, 1947, 1959-1962 and represented them on the Edmonton Archives and Landmarks Committee, 1966 and the Edmonton Historical Board, 1966-1972. She was designated Honorary Chief Factor of Fort Edmonton Park, 1974.
Christina McQueen McKnight died in October 1984.

Scope and content
This fonds consists of items relating to the David G. McQueen family and individuals and events in Edmonton AB and district. It also includes a book ‘Memories of a Pioneer Schoolteacher’ by Maisie Emery Cook.
The photographs relate to the McQueen family, early Edmonton families, buildings and events, Edmonton Exhibition parade, Victoria High School, The Edmonton Monarchs women's hockey team and the Banff Winter Carnival.
