Biographical history

Allan Gibson was born 26 Jul 1893 in the Sturgeon River Settlement, Alberta to Thomas Gibson and Agnes Kreider. He lived in the Sturgeon and Bon Accord area until going to Vermilion in 1915 to attend the Vermillion School of Agriculture. He married Ella Sophia Mulligan on 7 Feb 1923 in Bon Accord. They had one daughter - Jean.
Allan took over the family farm in Sturgeon County in 1923. He ran the family farm for over a decade until moving to Edson for a few years, then moving to Edmonton in the 1944 so his daughter could attend high school and university. He worked as a caretaker at the Metropolitan United Church until he retired in the early 1960s.
Allan Gibson died 5 Jan 1993 in Edmonton.

The fonds consists of photographs of farming activities on farms near Edmonton, possible Allan’s farm or farm of a neighbor or friend. The photographs include horse and steam powered agricultural equipment.

This fonds was donated to the City of Edmonton Archives by Allan Gibson in 1968.

The photographs were assigned item numbers with the prefix EA-49.
