This series contains records created through the administration of the Fire Department. The series has been divided into the following six subseries:
- Subseries 1: Reports, minutes, general orders and record keeping
- Subseries 2: Finance
- Subseries 3: Agreements
- Subseries 4: Buildings
- Subseries 5: Human Resources
- Subseries 6: Ephemera
Immediate source of acquisition
This material was transferred to the City of Edmonton Archives between 1973 and 2013 directly from the Fire Department and Emergency Response Department, as well as through the Corporate Records Centre.
The photographs were assigned item numbers with the prefix EA-89.

As was standard practice at the City of Edmonton Archives, photographs were separated from their textual records and processed and described in isolation. In 2017 the photos in EA-89 were intellectually repatriated as best as possible with the textual records and described in the arrangement which was imposed in 2014.
SubSeries 1.4 includes photos EA-89-1 through EA-89-15 and EA-89-84 through EA-89-90. The photos depict Fire Department buildings, equipment, and staff.
